The Artful Pour is an event series celebrating the union of fine art and fine wines. Art Advisor Cassandra Richardson and Sommelier Liz Aguilera present a tasting flight of hand-selected wine varietals from around the world, each paired with a remarkable work of art to illuminate how the characteristics, style, symbolism, and emotive response of wine and art coalesce.

Hosted seasonally at various unique venues around Charlotte, each edition of The Artful Pour features the work of different local artists, paired with outstanding wines from small-batch vintners. The history of art and wine is fascinating, robust, and varied. It is our hope that you come away from an Artful Pour event entertained, educated, enchanted– with a slightly deeper appreciation for both.

A message from The Artful Pour Founder, Liz Aguilera

Eight years ago, I became suddenly and unexpectedly ill. What followed was a long and often overwhelming journey through chronic illness, countless doctors, and eventually, the Mayo Clinic. I remember being so scared, but what stayed with me most wasn’t just the doctor's visit, it was the art.  Beautiful, calming pieces hung throughout the waiting rooms and corridors. That art gave me peace. As my first outing when I was well enough, I bought my first local piece from an amazing art advisor, Cassandra, and it sparked a passion. I knew I needed art to fill my life.

Later, while studying for my WSET wine certifications, I was struck by how much winemaking reminded me of art–  both shaped by place, technique, time, and feeling. That’s when the idea for pairing wine with art was born.

Through The Artful Pour, I aim to bring art to life through all the senses. I highlight small-batch winemakers, ancient grapes, and unique wines. I share their stories alongside works from local artists, creating a space where both wine and art feel less intimidating and more alive. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or simply curious, I want everyone to feel welcome. And now, I have the joy of doing it all with my service dog, Valora, by my side.
